DESCRIPTION: Length of females up to 12mm, males up to 10mm.  Also known as the Ornate Tailed Digger Wasp this little beauty is best identified by its black oblong head, the yellow and black banded abdomen (with the wide yellow middle band) and the yellow tibia on the rear legs. BEHAVIOUR: Nests in large aggregations and feeds on other Bees. Mating usually starts on the ground but normally the pair move into cover to finish copulation. DISTRIBUTION: Localised in the Southern half of the UK.  HABITAT: This species has a preference for open sandy soils, inland or coastal.  PERIOD: June to September. Single brooded.
